Weird Google Cast Issue

We have a Vizio M70 series tv with cast built in. We have a few ipads/iphones and a an android tablet, as well as an android phone that we cast content from to the TV. My issue is that whenever we cast from anything other than my phone, my phone seems to be the main "caster", in other words, if I open up say a game or something, the casting stops and my tv screen goes black. It doesn't matter which device we initiate the cast from. Any thoughts on why this is or what I can do to prevent my phone from being the main device?
