Weird gaming problems under Windows 2000

I'm running Win2K with a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, and on several occasions in the middle of a game (Microsoft Age of Kings) my USB Intellimouse Explorer shuts off (light goes out) and the mouse quits functioning. My USB keyboard also quits performing and I must reboot the PC. Can anybody give me an idea of what the problem might be? This never happened when I was runnin WinME.

Thanks in advance folks.

I'm going to ask some dumb questions, so bear with me....what mb are you using? I'm assuming that your usb is enabled in your bios and your mouse is installed correctly? If you have a VIA mb I'd suggest installing the USB driver. Also try a different USB mouse, just to see if it does it. A friend of mine had an intellimouse for about 4 months and he never abused it and it just stoped working after awhile, but I kinda doubt that is happening to you since its in a game.

Motherboard is Abit KT7. Everything in the Bios is enabled accordingly. Note, these problems never occured under Windows ME, thus after a fresh install of Win2K, I have a funny feeling I need to upgrade my Via 4 in 1 drivers for the Motherboard.

Your funny feeling is correct. Update the USB drivers with the VIA 4in1.
