I sent this messaged to Newegg but wondered if anyone here had an idea as to wtf is going on...

UPS dropped off a package with a Newegg packing slip addressed to me. It had SO# XXXXXXXX and the package contained a Kingston 2GB Secure Digital Memory card item 20-134-029. Shortly afterward, UPS came back to reclaim the package claiming it was a fraud order. UPS tracking number is 1ZR2197V0200011071 I never ordered that item and I do not see it in my order history on the Newegg website.

I did recently purchase a similar item on eBay and paid via PayPal. Here is the item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300063992522 I have not received it yet. I WAS shopping on newegg for a similar card but ended up getting it on eBay instead. No order was ever placed at Newegg for the item.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

Thanks,
CxP

Youve been scammed. It sounds like someone auctioned a card then used a stolen CC to order from the egg and had it shipped to you.
I'm not sure I understand this scam. If the perp had a stolen CC, why don't they just buy a bunch of stuff with it directly? Why would they do this whole roundabout thing of using it in an eBay/Newegg transaction?

What I'm curious about is how/if Paypal would deny you a chargeback. Let's say you got this package, and signed for it. Let's say it didn't come from Newegg, but from this ebay guy, with fake (easily printed out) Newegg info on it. He now has signature confirmation that you received his package, calls UPS tells them it was a fraud order, please reclaim it and return it. You try to get Paypal to give you your money back, but he submits the UPS signature confirmation that you did get it, gets to keep your money and his item (minus some shipping).

Was the box a Newegg box, did the tracking info show it coming from one of their warehouses in NJ or CA?

Because they wanted cash from the card & not merchandise. Buying an item & returning it leaves too much of a paper trail. And as far as I know only banks can do cash advances without the card being present. And they have security cameras all over.

Got some feedback from newegg:

Hello,

Thank you for your prompt attention in this matter. I am sorry you're in the middle of this scam but the merchandise being sold on E-Bay is purchased through our website and paid for by stolen credit cards. If you do not get a refund, we urge you to contact your local police department so they may initiate an investigation.

ONCE YOU KNOW, YOU NEWEGG.

The refund has posted to my PayPal account but not my CC yet so we shall see....
