weird firefox issue

message/topic says most of it, I enter a URL into firefox's address bar and it just time out and fails to connect. I try it with IE and it works fine, and *then* it works with firefox. Any idea if this is some kind of spyware? I use antivir/spybotsd/adaware/zonealarm and they're all updated regularly
