weird file situation

there are several people her at work who use a calendar program to keep track of vacations and stuff. previously only 1 person at a time could have the actual calendar file opened. if it was opened, the next person trying to open it would get an error saying it couldn't be opened.

now today, at least 2 people can have the file open at the same time. there is no error and its causing problems with them not being able to save it because its open somewhere else.

nothing has changed with the file or the program that i am aware of.

how did this happen and is there a way to return it to normal (only 1 person allowed to have it open at once)?

windows server 2003.

i don't understand how it could go from only allowing one instance of the file being opened to allowing multiple instances opened.

I'm speculating here, but possibly someone opened it, and before they changed it, someone else opened it.

Have you ever looked into Outlook's calendar? I think it was built specifically for this type of function, or possibly even Google's.
