When my computer boots up it says: Primary IDE chaneel no 80 conductor cable installed. This is before windows loads after it has done the memory check and the drive check.

This is not realy the approperate forum for it, it would be better in the peripherals forum.

That said, the error message means you arn't using 80 wire IDE cables 🙂 Duh. There are 2 main types of IDE cables, and only 80 wire cables are able to use the faster UDMA speeds.

Definately wrong forum but...

It either means what Anthrax said or it could also mean that the cable was plugged in "wrong". See that blue cable? That should go into your motherboard. Alot of these cables also have a "hole" on one end. That is the slave device that should go after the hole.
