Weird Error after bios update

I have a Asus P4T M/B and get the following error after updating to the latest beta bios 1005.003 it only gets this error booting Windows ME it will boot Win XP RC2 fine but when it reaches Win XP it finds all kinds of new devices and installs them. When booting Win ME it does this while loading drivers right after the WIN ME start up screen


WHILE INITIALIZING DEVICE VCOMM
Windows protection error. you need to restart your computer system haulted.

It will boot up in Win ME in safe mode. If I reflash back to 1005.01 it works fine. Its really no big deal but I'm bored. any Ideas ???

Simply reinstall the OS.
The BIOS flash must have made some significant changes and Windows cannot load its drivers properly. It was "too attached" to the old setup 🙂

You would get a similar problem if you change a lot of hardware on your WinXP machine (not talking about its protection) - it will get confused and throw up all over itself.

Well if it comes to all that forget it !!!!!! not worth it when you have a perfectly working system for some beta bios. there must be a easier fix.

There is. Reinstall the old BIOS that worked.

The old rule keeps getting validated . . . avoid beta products unless you are prepared with a backup. If it ain't broke . .. don't fix it.

corky-g I hear ya I already did. But there has to be a way and I'm bored. Its like a challenge and my experience with Asus beta bios is a good one they usually work fine. I really think this is a WIn ME problem and think if I knew what devive the VComm error was pointed to I could get around it.
