Weird DVD-ROM drive problem

OK, this one's driving me crazy.

The drive itself does not seem to be at fault because it will work fine in other computers. In this computer, when a data CD is put in and accessed, the computer brings up a blue screen with the following message:

An exception has occurred at 0028:00000108 in VxD ---. This was called from 0028:C1833018 in VxD scsihlp(03) + 00000508. It may be possible to continue normally.

Then you got your normal press any key or ctrl-alt-delete message. Help!

The motherboard's an Asus P2-99, if that would help any. Need to know anything else? Ask.
