long ver: Ok, story time, im at my friends house and we are watching some store brought dvd movies on the her avertec 3150 lappy with dvd/cdrw. First movie plays fine, then we watch the second movie and in the middle of it the movie just stops. I ejcet/reinstert and the dirve is not even reading the movie, so I slide in a diff movie and same problem. When a dvd is now in the drive it reads as if the drive is empty, in my computer, and power dvd 4 also odvously. So to test it I insert a reg movie, and it works fine, so it ust be a software prob right, wrong. I go home and get my external drive kit and pop my dvdrw out of my case "gotta love rails" and plug it into her lappy, plays every ovie fine, but her dvd drive on her lappy still wont recignize any dvds.

Short version: dvd player doesnt recignize dvds, but will read any other type of cd.
plug in a external and the extrnal will read everything.

Does it sound like her cd drive needs to be replaced by anyone other than myself, I don't want to tell her to ship it off atleast I half to, she is already cryin as it is.
