Weird dropdown combobox behavior

This problem is with most comboboxes being displayed on my computer. For an example, go to create a new thread, and in the text formatting toolbar, there's a combobox that lets you pick emoticons.

When you click on the combobox, and then press a keyboard key, it's supposed to go to an item that begins with the letter you pressed. This works okay for me. However, when I press two different letters in rapid succession, for example B, and then C, the second one is not detected. I need to wait exactly one second before I am able to press another key. Pressing the same key is okay.

I was wondering if anyone could test this for me to see if the problem is universal or just my computer. It's just annoying because I tend to have to use dropdown boxes a lot.

In Firefox, Listboxes have this behavior intentionally. This is so that if you have both Ab and Ac in the list and you type A followed by c, it goes to Ac. Personally, I can't stand the IE behavior which I imagine does as you expect it should. Why are you typing in the wrong letter?

Windows acts the same way as FF. Go into a folder with files named abc.txt and bcd.txt. Type in "abc" quickly and it'll highlight abc.txt. Type it in slowly and bcd.txt will be highlighted at the end.

Yeah, so I guess Firefox is using the Windows component and IE made its own, inferior component. Not a shocker.

Hmm, okay, thanks guys! Wow, I never knew about this behavior. Very surprising to me considering I've been using Windows for so long.

By the way, my IE does this too, which is kind of strange since you guys are saying yours doesn't. *shrug* oh well...

I haven't verified it on IE7.
