Weird Display issue w/ DVI connection

so I recently purchased a brand new monitor the acer al2216w. I never used DvI before but since my video card has it, i decided to use it. It worked fine for about a week. One day I turned my monitor on and moved the mouse to get it out of standby and it said "no input signal." I pressed the keyboard keys but nothing, it wasn't frozen because the lights on the keyboard could turn off and on. So I unplugged the dvi from the video card and plugged it back in and the display came back. Ever since i've noticed that this problem only occurs when I turn the monitor off and try to get it out of standby. If i leave the monitor on, i can bring it out of standby no problem. any ideas? Yes, i have upgraded to the latest video drivers and installed the monitor driver as well. I know it's not the monitor because i had it exchanged and it does the same thing. TIA
