Weird Computer Problem

Ok, I hooked my friend up with a custom built computer that he bought off of this forum. At my house I put it all together, loaded Windows XP on it and put on a couple games to make sure it worked. It worked great. Then he took it back to his house and it wouldnt post. So I went over to help him. We found out it was the mobo shorting out in the case, so we fixed that and got it to post but it wouldnt load into windows. So I reformated the hard drive (which is SATA by the way) and tried to load WinXP on there again. Well I couldnt get the floppy to read the Raid drivers so I put in a 8gb IDE HD to load the OS on. I boot from the WinXP CD and it loads up and loads everything onto the computer at the blue screen but then it freezes when it says "Setup is Starting Windows" and it stays there for hours. Ive tried Win200 as well and it freezes at the same spot. What could this problem be? I have come to the conclusion that is is prolly the motherboard. I think my friend, while he was taking the mobo out, scratched it with his screwdriver a little bit. Could that be why it was working and now is not. BTW, here is the link for the computer he bought. I need help to find out which part needs to be replaced. Thanks in advance.

It does sound like he damaged something. Have you tried reseating all of the cards, memory, and cables? Otherwise, without spare parts to try, it is hard to figure out. If you have more than 1 stick of memory, try 1 stick at a time and after that, you may have to start RMAing components.

Ive tried the RAM in my system and its good. Im pretty sure all thats left to try out would be the mobo, and I think its dead.

More input would be greatly appreciated.
