Weird computer issue

My newly built computer has decided the other day not to start. After some tinkering, I found that by pressing on the heatsink or the area of the motherboard directly below the CPU and above the video card I could get it to turn on and boot properly. Also, there was a strange buzzing sound that I could not pinpoint that was alleviated by the pressing.

I removed the heatsink and tightned the bracket. Everything worked fine for a day or two, and now it wont turn on again. Pressing on the heatsink will cause it to either turn off completely, or boot until it hangs depending on where I press.

I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do. I've never had a problem like this ever.

Components involved are

ABIT AN8 SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice CPU
Scythe SCNJ-1000P Ninja Heatsink

Any ideas?

If you can try to run the mobo out of the case.. be sure to properly mount it somwhere or you may fried your board. Could be a contact or short issue. What kind of case is it.. I would try the stock heatsink and not use the ninja to isolate the problem

Sounds like a micro short in the board. If the board won't run out of the case and cpu, ram and, gpu are seated properly, your board is toast. Sorry :(
