Weird CompactFlash card information

i got this 256MB card for my cam from Newegg, the brand is SimpleTech. All reviews said it's good and fast memory etc.

Ok..the card works fine.

But...the multilingual 'manual' somewhat surprised me...

The english doc says: [freely citing there]
"the memory can get fragmented...this is normal...

In the other languages indeed it says: "The memory can get *corrupted*" (Or: "The format of the card can get corrupted"...this is very normal for storqage media (NO, IT'S NOT !!!!)...

And they say that formatting the card is part of 'maintenance'....like the memory changes from one day to the other and gets corrupted...and they say it's advised to format the CF card *everytime* you download the contents to the computer. (Like: Every day, because i download the pictures/videos i take almost immediately afteri shoot 'em)

So...for a memory card the talk of the memory getting corrupted and it's 'normal for storage media' (for a HD ?? cheez...how do you spell 'RMA' ?????)...and their advice to format all the time (with a USB reader/writer since they say the normal 'in-cam' format can not correct certain errors !)..ok..i just thought this is all weird 🙂

(BTW. no doubt about it it results in problems when you switch off the cam while it's writing etc...or bump it hard against the table....but i think the other stuff they say is just questionable 🙂

greetings

Just put the CF card in the camera and have the camera reformat it. It will then be "standard" and you won't be wasting space with that sort of nonsense. A "manual" for a CF card is sort of guilding the lily, I have only reformatted my CF card a couple of times in the camera over a year period. Usually it was because it was faster than moving the pictures.
