Weird cell phone phenomenon

Ok over the past week one of my girlfriends' phone died twice. (dead battery)

Both of those times her phone called me. i picked up when it said she was calling, when answering all i heard was static.

She said it was impossible for her to call to because at the time she was showering.

any ideas for whats happening ?

and i meant that her phone was in a different room and thats why she couldnt call
