Weird CD burner problem.

I have an old Plextor Plexwriter 12x/10x/32xa. I've been using it for years and it has worked flawlessly. My problem started after a format last month. I can burn music CDs no problem but every time I try and burn a data CD it will get to around 48% and then my system will restart. I've tried both Nero and Alcohol120% and both are no go. I can burn in safemode but at only 4-5x. What could possibly be wrong?

Thank You,
J.

you should grab plextools from the plextor site and check if any of those tools give any sort of information. i've never used them but i've read they are pretty comprehensive.

I cna only DL an upgrade from their site, but I think I may have it on my CD at home if I can find my box.

That is the strangest problem.. the ONLY think i can think of that would cause it to stop burning at the same point each time is a bad image file or CD you are copying from.... try some other different data and see what happens.

the 2-4X speed you can write at would normally mean bad media or a buffer underrun problem... but a buffer underrun problem wouldn't always happen at the same point (48%)

perplexing situation indeed!
