Weird case USB behavior - can you help?

Guys,

I recently set a buddy up with a board I had, an EPoX 4PDA2+ i865PE board. His case is an Antec ATX-601 AE case with two front-mounted USB ports. Previous board installed in this case was an EPoX 4SDA+, and the front-mounted USB ports worked fine. The on-board USB connectors worked fine in my system, which has a Koutech 771 front-mounted USB/Firewire panel.

What we're experiencing is that the backplane USB ports work fine, while the front-mounted ports end w/ a Windows XP error that the "device is not recognized." The 4PDA2+ board has two ground (GND) connectors. The case USB device has three ground wires emanating from it: a black wire ground (identified as GND1), a brown wire ground (identified as GND2) and a black/blue wire ground (identified as GND1).

We've tried every combination of wires and still are experiencing the "device not recognized" error. The only thing we haven't done is put one of the three ground wires on pin 10, which is labeled NC.

If you've experienced this and found a solution, can you please share? Or, point me to a website that might offer a solution.

TIA,

Jeff

I have a similar problem and I haven't found out what causes it other than it's defective.

Let me know if you find out what is causing that.

If the wires each end in their own single pluglet, rather than one big monoblock 10-position plug, then make sure you're keeping the 1's segregated onto their own row of the mobo header, and likewise the 2's.

mechBegon, we redid the individual wires tonight, paying close attention to the 0's and 1's, or 1's and 2', in the case of the wires coming from the case USB ports. The only thing we're confused by is the three ground wires, and where to put them. Maybe the grounds aren't the issue.

I did bring home my buddy's USB thumb drive, to see if my system recognized it. Suffice it to say it's flakely. So, in the next day or two I'm going to take one of my good USB thumb drives over and check it out on my buddy's machine.
