Hello all, I got my hands on a weird problem. I just assembled a new PC with AMD 3700+ (socket 754) and an MSI K8T Mobo with AMI BIOS.

The problem is, when I turn on my computer, it tells me that "NO BIOS installed." but I've no trouble getting to Windows XP. I even flashed the BIOS, both in MSDOS and Windows and it still says it. I know it's no big deal as long as everything works but I don't get the initial memory check screen where I can hit DEL or F1 or F8 to get into BIOS.

What gives?

That's undoubtedly from one of your onboard disk controllers that has no drives attached to it. You can disable unused controllers in your BIOS or sometimes by jumper and it won't show that message.

Thanks Mech. Well, this is the first time I installed a SATA drive (a 74 GB Western Digital Raptor) but I didn't build a RAID. Just wanted a fast SATA drive to put my OS on. Well, I couldn't manage that so I just installed Windows on a 120GB IDE drive but I guess I loaded the drivers for the controllers of SATA drive during the setup (hit F6 during setup). Anyways, I guess I can try what you suggested but how would I do that if I cannot see that memory check screen to hit DEL or F8 to enter BIOS? :) Thanks.

Edit: I managed to get to BIOS but couldn't find what to disable. Under Integrated Peripherals, I have

VT8237 PATA-IDE Controller: Enabled
VT8237 SATA-IDE Controller: Enabled

Excuse me if I'm being stupid but I'm guessing I have to keep these two enabled, don't I? :) PATA-IDE is for my WD 120GB and 200GB & SATA-IDE is for my WD 74GB Raptor. RIght? :)Thanks.

Edit 2: I found this thread on MSI message boards so I guess it's not something I have to worry about, and I found out that if I keep hitting F1 after getting that message, it takes me straight to BIOS.

One thing that sucks about K8T Chipset is that it doesn't work with Sound Blaster Audigy 1, so buyer beware! :)
