Weird Benchmark with 3DMark2001

Built my rig (in sig) just over two years ago...

I was tickled to get nearly 8000 points on the 3DMark2000 (not SE)... As time went on and programs were installed, etc... My scores seemed to be stable at 7600...

Now about a year and a half later I ran the benchmark a few times and am getting 5800... What gives?

I'm going to try a fresh install of everything and see what kind of performance boost I can get... Seems odd for performance to drop so much... Is this normal? What can I do to keep the machine running speedily along... Yes, I do defrag regularly, and I keep files tidy/etc...

which is it 3dmark2001(title) or 3dmark2000(post)? that would help. I think 8000 is a little high for a GF3 but I don't really remember maybe thats right.

Check the resolution you ran it at. Sounds like you originally used 1024x768 and this time you ran 1280x1024.

Not sure what (title) or (post) means... I used the same program I downloaded 2 years ago called 3DMark2001...

8000 is a good score but it is *possible* with a lean machine (I really only got within 100 of 8k once)... Usually I'd score 7750 or thereabouts which is still "good"...

Also, I checked the resolution and it was 1024x768, 32 bit for both recent and past (high score) runs...

I did chance from a 21.83 to a 23.12 driver about 1 year ago but I was very sure to remove residue/etc... and if memory serves I noticed a slight performance increase then... Also, the 23.12s are supposed to be the best drivers for the GF3 Ti 500 according to some benchmerk I saw on a tweak site... I'm baffled...

Update your drivers to the 53.03s?

Also, my GF3 Ti200 @ 200/472, loer than Ti 500 speed benchmarked over 8000 with an Athlon T-bird 1.4. Update your drivers to 53.03 and see what you get. 23.12s are ancient, man.

I used the 23.12s as I had read on several tweak sites that these "older" drivers were actually better for the older cards because they didn't have all the extra mumbo jumbo required for the newer technology cards... There were some benchmarks given (Tweaktown maybe?), which confirmed best driver set for a GF3 was the 23.12... I may try the newer set though... Thanks for the info...

I have same rig and same score. I will see the 5000 score when i forget to set video correctly. Remember to turn off v sync, aa, af and disable any refresh rate over rides.

AFAIK, Vsync is off but I will recheck. Also not sure about refresh rate overrides? How do I adjust this?

I do know that the AA and AF are off...

it means 2001 like you said in the title, or 2000 like you said in your post. ;)
