Weird behavior of Geforce2Ti & WinXP

A month ago I built my custom rig, here are the specs:
AthlonXP 1600+
ECS K7S5A
Crucial 256pc2100
Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB (partitioned into 5 drives)
16x Lite-on DVD & 8x4x32 Phillips CDRW

The video card is the Gainward Cardexpert Geforce2Ti 500 Golden Sample
Vivo.

Initially, I had only Win98SE as my OS. I used the WHQL drivers from
Gainward, and everything worked perfectly stable.

A week ago, I installed Windows XP Professional (now dual booting
98se/XP Pro). Not having an Internet connection up, I installed the
drivers from the CD. The installation was fine - using the GF2Ti
drivers for XP. However, when I try to do anything other than basic
programs (like IE or Office apps) the display craps out. What happens
is either the monitor displays that the frequency of 250hz vertical &
horizontal is out of range, or the display becomes a repeating static
pattern of a portion of the screen. However, Windows doesn't crash;
programs can still be heard. I've encountered this problem when using
the following programs: Red Alert 2 installation, Half Life, Star Trek
Voyager Elite Force, and any video capture program (the WDM drivers
installed fine off the CD).
Now that I have an Internet connection, I've tried a variety of
drivers to no avail. Here is the list:

Detonator 23.11 from nvidia.com
Whql v14.10 and "faster vga" 22.5 from gainward.com
Windows automatic "Geforce 2 DDR"

Also, I ran Windows Update for XP Pro, and am using the latest
motherboard VGA drivers.

All of these drivers have produced the same results. Are there other
drivers that I should try? Would it help to uninstall the WDM drivers?
Anything else that can be recommend?

I can't imagine this being a hardware problem, as I've had absolutely
zero problems with Win98SE.

Thanks in advance
