Weird beeping from HD area

My old laptop died suddenly at a time when I had work that needed done, so I was forced to buy one without any research. I got an HP dv9000 from CC around two weeks ago, without knowing anything other than it had good work computer specs and a good price.

For the first time yesterday a quick beep came from the HD area about 4:30 pm or so. I just happened again at about 10:30 am.

I have it on and use it about 10-12 hours a day. The HD temp is about 47C right now.

I don't know that its the HD, it just comes from that area.

Has this happened to anyone else?

If you don't have a current backup, then take care of that. It may be something else beeping, but generally any sound coming from an HD that isn't "normal" is a sign of potential failure. I might suggest running a utility that does a bad block scan (after you back up your data) to see if anything turns up, but just be vigilant and see if the issue gets worse.

I was flumoxed by repetitive beeping at my computer and started a thread about it some time ago. It turned out that my cell phone's battery was running low, IIRC. Sometimes those beeps are hard to figure out.
