Weird Audio Errors on MP3s from KaZaa

I don't listen to the radio much, so every once in a while I go to Billboard.com and download some of the songs (via KaZaa) on the Top 40 to see if there's anything new out that I like. Well, after such a session I quickly went through deleting/ renaming/ playing the songs to see if any of it was good. Four of the songs, Cold - Stupid Girl, Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love, Monica - So Gone, and Three Doors Down - When I'm Gone, had these weird intermittent chunks where the audio would just like flip out and start to screech, hiccup, and so forth. Usually, it was about 30 seconds in and occurred seemingly at random throughout the rest of the song.

I tried to play these files with Winamp 2.91 and WMP 6.4. The results sounded generally the same (tho Winamp would sort of loop little 1 sec. sections over and over while WMP would just kinda screech and whine and go on).

So, what is it? Did a bunch of ppl just suddenly switch to crappier CD ripping apps? Insidious music-corrupting virus from the RIAA? Bizarre KaZaa downloading errors (the rest of the day's downloads, on and off KaZaa have been fine)? Gremlins in my hard drive? Has anyone else experienced this?

this has been discussed several times before. it's anti-piracy people serving fake files. they are really getting desperate.

yeah now days the record companies will "leak" music that is all f'ed up, has parts where it just beeps, becoomes staticey, and so on, looks like you just got one of those, u just have to have a number of sources that i download from, instead of just one guy, i download the song from 5 people if possiable

Ohhh, okay. The only anti-piracy stuff I've hit before was "music" from Weird Al's new album where the songs would be the right size/length, but contain nothing but silence.

I was sure there had to be an obvious answer like this... still, I can't believe 37 ppl are sharing the messed up version of "Stupid Girl." Oy.

Thanks guys!

note: TheCorm does not endorse the use of P2P software and does not admit to using it himself...encountered could refer to another users PC.

Discovered that last week as well, but why are over a 100 users sharing this messed up song?
