hi there all.. I'm trying to install Windows XP on an AMD 2000+, Gigabyte Via chipset board, MicronTech 256MB PC3200 Memory and an old Maxtor 10 GB hard drive.. During the windows install i get error: Unknown hard error and the installation stops at 13 minutes left :(.. I have tried many tweaks including the memtest v3.0(no errors, ran over 10 times), changing the dimm, changing memory with Kingston 512MB PC3200 CS2.5...but still same error at every install :(..

Do you think this a hard drive error? if no what else can cause this kinda error..

your feedback is highly appreciated.

My best guess (since you ran memtest) would be a bad hard drive. Try getting a utility from Maxtor to check the drive, or possibly read errors on the source media from the CDROM drive or DVD drive, causing this. Also try using a different media that is know good, with a know good DVD or cdrom drive.
