My video card's (Sapphire ATI Radeon 8500LE) fan has been making this vibrating noises since two weeks ago. The noises sounded like a fan which has its blades brushing up against something and causing it to vibrate. I have to twist the wire that powers the fan in a weird way in order to lower the noise. I had this problem before with my Leadtek Geforce 2 MX video card which I end up sent it in for repair, but it came back the same way. I eventually end up replacing the Leadtek card with my current Sapphire card because the fan (unfortunately it was soldered on the board) just keeps making the stupid noise and it was causing my computer to crash constantly. Man, I can believe this is happening again.
Eventhough I only have bought this Sapphire card for 8 months, I really don't want to send it in for repair again since it's a cheap card and shipping fee costs a lot. Thus, I am thinking about purchasing a video card fan to replace the one. But before replacing the fan, I just want to know what is the likely cause of this problem? Is this problem due to the fan itself or due to something else? Could the orientation of the fan be the cause of the problem? (please note that the fan is facing the bottom of my tower case when installed properly) I am think the orientation of the fan could be a problem since overtimes the heat from video processors could have caused the adhesive, which was used to glue the fan to the gpu, to fall apart. Without the adhesive, the fan blade might be out of alignment with respect to other parts of the heatsink-and-fan cooling unit.
It just seems that the video fans died too quickly (both of video card fans have problem in less than 12 months) when compare to a cpu heatsink fan which lasts for years. Finally, please give me some recommendations on which video card fans to get.
