Weird 'Access Denied' error on copying from shared folder, help!

I have a LAN across a VPN and I am trying to copy a PDF file from the machine across the VPN to my machine. Both machines are on a workgroup, not a domain. The PDF file is located under a shared folder, that I have set 'Everyone' rights to 'Full Control'. The username on my machine matches a username on that machine (no password is set for the username on both machines).

The weird crazy thing is that under the shared folder, there is a sub-folder, and under that folder are two files: An XML file, and a PDF file. I can copy/rename/delete/etc the XML file perfectly fine, but the PDF file I cannot touch. It just says the generic "Access Denied: Make sure disk is not write protected, blah blah".

Any ideas? the thing that is boggling me is that the XML file (and even the folder that contains those two files) I can copy, rename, etc etc.. I've checked, and nothing is 'locking' that PDF file or anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Right click and go to properties on the pdf and make sure it isn't read only. If it already isn't try saving as read only and then removing it. Worked for me on some XML shared files on my WHS box.

I checked the rights, and it's not set to read-only. I think I figured out the problem, though. The username I was using to connect to the share had a blank password, so i tried logging in using a username that had a password and it worked.

I don't know why it would work though considering the XML file was working perfectly and the PDF wasn't on the username with the blank password...
