Weird 3dmark Issues

So, just bought a gtx 295, and when running 3dmark vantage, two tests will act up. The first is the Jane Austen test; water will stretch from the top of the screen to the bottom, and flicker, covering up the scene. The other is the flag scene; the flags are contorted into balls and just move crazily. All the other GPU tests run without a hitch. Anyone know what's going on? I'm using win7 RC 7100, rest of the specs are in my sig.

Here's what it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDErP01clMI

Do yourself a favor and bench in some games, see if it acts up, and compare them to the 295 reviews. I wouldn't worry too much about artificial benchmarks.

Those look like memory artifacts. ups
Try uninstalling your drivers, make a driver sweeper and reinstall them again. If you have this issue in other 3d applications, then your card is defective.

Ok, so the water problem I fixed by checking the option "disable GPU simulations". I have no idea what that is :D

The flag test was still acting up, but I guess that's another option related issue. Every game I've played didn't act up when I went near water (Empire: TW, WoW, etc), so I guess I'm ok.

My GPU score was: 6,481 and my CPU score was: 34,666

That about right?

EDIT: From what I've seen, that GPU score is way too low for a gtx295 >.<

Is this a win7 issue?

Also, generally if your computer acts up and you're running on non retail software, it could quite possibly be the software. For instance, Windows 7 while very stable in its RC state is still not public retail. Drivers are possibly incomplete and still have major bugs for the Win7 since again, Win7 is not retail. Even new drivers that are supposedly stable and has passed certification can contain major bugs.

Ok, in dxdiag, my gtx 295 has only 364mb of memory...

wut

GPU-Z sees it right, with 896mb each (two cards), so I guess I'm ok there. Still wondering why my 3dmark score is so low, though :(

64 bit or 32 bit Win7 install? If 32 bit, I think that's your problem since 32 bit Windows can only address or "see" up to a certain amount of memory.

It's 64 bit, but gpu-z sees the cards right, so I think I'm ok there. 3dmark is still confusing me...

Although there is a mapping of video memory to the upper 2gb space on a 32bit OS, this is just an aperture segment. (banked virtual memory mapping) Video memory reported by the OS will always come back as the total video memory available, especially if queried through directx. 32bit or 64bit has no effect on these queries.

Most games run in a virtual 32bit space anyways with standard 32bit video mappings.

I think there is something wrong with his card or driver.

Oh noes :(

Is there some sort of GPU stress test I can run to see if my card's defective? It runs my games fine, but I don't want it to asplode down the line or something.

That and my 3dmark score still sucks, but that might just be win7 >.>

Driver check.

Did you have a card in there before?
Did you uninstall/clean the drivers?
What driver are you running?

Had 8800gt in there before, just installed the new driver over it; I thought that would replace it.

How do I wipe my drivers clean, period?

EDIT: Dur, hadn't gotten rid of my 8800gt drivers completely. Once they were gone, 3dmark ran fine (16,700 on "performance), which is pretty much in line with other review's benchmarks. Whee!

Also, while I have helpful people reading this,

a.) Why do the GPU tests stress so much? They don't look "UBAR REALISTIC" or anything to me.

b.) Why are shadows, smoke, and dust so intensive on GPU's?

I'm thinking its your PSU.

You have a heavily overclocked quad core and a SLI on a chip with the most power hungry card there is. Its probably getting enough power to run, but under stress on your CPU as well as your GPU its failing miserably. Corsair makes great PSU's, but their 620w isn't enough for this build.
