why, when lifting weights.. . .
ok, so a guy benches 220 pounds on barbells
but with dumbbells he can only do 80 pounds each. Why is that?
80 + 80 = 160, which does not equal 220.
I tried thinking about how it could be, but i can't figure it out.
wouldn't the 220 pounds be distributed to each arm according to their strength, so technically the guy should be able to do say 100 on the left arm and 120 on the right arm correct? (if he is right handed)
I at first thought that it might be because we have to balance the weights which adds more stress to each arm, but that can't be it, can it?

The first thing is that the dumbbells are a bit more cumbersome and difficult to balance.

You also have different starting postions, most people can do higher weight with dumbbells than they do, but getting them into position is quite hard.

The dumbbells will help to build up a lot of the stabilizing muscles in your chest which will enable you to bench more.

I'm starting this one this week. Sounds excellent!

M- Chest/Biceps (I do dumbell bench personally)
T- Lower Back/Shoulders
W- Off
Th- Legs
F- Upper Back/ Triceps

Prior to this I did this-

M- Chest/Biceps
T- Legs
W- Off
Th- Shoulder/Triceps
F- Back

I decided to try the change because I wanted to give my deadlifts a seperate day from the rest of my back workouts.

how exactly are you planning on working upper back and lower back? so for lower back i do a backwards crunch kinda movement, and for upper back, its like the butter fly, but once again reverse, is that what you do?

eveyrone different. like for me i do 75-80 dumbells 3x10, but for bar, i could only do 165 3x10.

also, some people's 3x10 rep weight and max is close, while for others , the max is a lot more than their 3x10 rep.

i've read bench machines work out your chest more, less stabalizers muscle, using dumbells more stablizer less chest, and barbell is in the middle.

Deadlifts work a lot more than just your lower back though. Weighted hyper extensions or Good Mornings are good for working out just your lower back.

I know this. But deadlifts are much better at working out your lower back than the exercises you mentioned.
