Weight lifting, neck pain

Ok about a week ago I was doing the leg press in the gym and had 500LBS on it. I was able to do about 10 reps and then decided to stop (wasnt impossible for me to do more). As I was doing the leg press people were watching me because apparently thats a lot of weight. So I stopped and felt fine but then when I got up I had this surging pain in the back on my neck that was very painful and lasted for 20 minutes. I felt like my head was going to collapse, it was like my head was beating and not my heart. After the pain went away I asked some people why it did that and some say it was because I wasn't breathing (I thought I was but maybe not).

So I go home and then the next day I come back to do some more lifting (curls with dumbells), military press with dumbells (forgot the name for it) etc.. And the pain started to come back, so I started to breathe really fast but still nothing. So I then stopped and decided I should get some rest and I went home. Now a weak later I try to do the same thing agian (with dumbells) but it keeps coming back (not as painful as first time).

Anybody have any idea what it is? It's pain in the back on the neck near I guess where the cerebral cortex is...

Paragraphs.

edit: thanks.

Could be a trapped nerve, I had a similar thing once, but then it could be a strained muscle.

Consult your doctor, it's no good asking computer nerds tbh.

It is possible you strained something. You should be able to lift weights without straining in any way. In otherwords not having to use anyother muscle than what you need to lift the weights. In otherwords not using your lats and back muscles to pull you down to the seat while your leags try to lift that 500lbs of weight. If you are using some other muscle than the ones you are intending to work out then you are lifting too much and risk getting a injury that is a result of poor technique. I would suggest, besides going to the doctor, you aska personal trainer to coach you on your movements so you can prevent future mishaps.

Well, you know, this really does not sound good. I am no trained medical person, but I would say you need to find out what the problem is before you go and make it worse by doing more lifting. Make sure it's not an aneurysm or something.

When I do the leg press, I get really aggressive and get all pumped up. If you do the same, and aren't breathing... your face is going to turn blood red and you can easily pull a muscle anywhere in your body. During a major muscle press like that, every muscle in your body is extremely strained. If the leg press you are using has handles next to your butt, you definately need to pull on those as hard as you can, to keep your butt in the seat.
