Weight lifting advice

In the past, I've only gone to the gym as a way to get some exercise and break up the monotony of classes... recently however, I've found myself wanting to improve at lifting and make real progress. Could anyone out there point me at some good resources or offer some tips of their own?

Could fill a library with all there is to know... The very basics - you have to eat like it's your job. Sounds easy, but you have to eat the right foods and it gets tiring if your heart isn't in it. Protein shakes should be a part of this, and if you have two or more a day you will have atrocious gas. If there's a way around this, I haven't found it. Thankfully I live alone 😛 You have to get enough sleep. At least 6, preferably 8 hours a night. And you have to lift heavy and do it to exhaustion. No finishing when you hit 8, or 10, or whatever preset number - you stop when you can't do another rep. Then you rest for a minute & do it again 😛 One last point is that the "less is more" adage holds true here - generally hitting each muscle group once a week is sufficient to build muscle, provided you're doing it properly and eating & sleeping enough. Too much can be overtraining, which prevents muscle growth. Check out Superior Muscle for more info and some very active & popular forums.
