WEI: why gaming > desktop?

Why does windows rate graphics devices higher on the 'gaming graphics' score than graphics (desktop performance)? I don't really get how a graphics device can be better at gaming than desktop graphics, especially when it is the integrated graphics.

try this on for size.
supposedly one of the differences between "consumer graphics cards" and "pro graphics cards" (aka consumer graphics cards with $1000-$5000+ drivers installed) is this:

  • consumer cards: drivers optimized to be really good at rendering a single "window" (whether the game be fullscreen or not). When you have multiple windows open the graphics card does not keep a copy of the contents of the window below the top window active. I just totally butchered the explanation but hopefully you get what I'm aiming at. I read this in a magazine for 3D artists

  • pro cards: exact same hardware as your consumer card, but with a different set of drivers. This time the graphics card can keep multiple windows fully rendered simultaneously... whether it be buried below or whether it be the top window... thus a smooth and silky desktop experience. of course the "pro drivers" on those consumer cards... making them "pro cards" apparently also deliver other benefits.
I'm sure there are mistakes in that explanation but that is the gist of the article I read more than a couple of years back.

Its because the card reduces clocks on the desktop. Set the power count OK or the card to full on ad the desktop score often increases dramatically.

WEI for FX+7950@1250/1250 setup
BTW this system is awsome=smooth like silk!
