WEhy cant my computer system restore?

i canot connect throught the internet explorer, i can use firefox or im, and see my network, but IE doesnt load.
Ive ran the latest adaware and spybot, yet nothing. i am runing norton 2005, and thats about it.
tried to restore to several dates/ w/ no luck. it just keeps telling me it cant. i tried many different dates. but it still doesnt work
sytem restore IS enabled by the way.
 
Are you getting an error message when trying to open IE, or does it just not load at all? What is the exact error message you are getting from System Restore?
 
You can try this!
Go to the following path:

%windir%\inf

and right click on the sr.inf file there and choose "install"...

It will ask you for you XP CD so put it in and see if that repairs your system restore!
 
IE just gives you that error message "Cannot be displayed"

after it reboots it says Restoration incomplet, You cannot complete restoration, no changes have been made
