Weekly DC Stats - 20FEB2022

Hi all,

first the big news: TeAm AnandTech went up from 15th to 14th place in Folding@home. Cheers to our F@H contributors!

This has been a difficult week, and maybe the next one will be too — that is, for several among us who were used to run World Community Grid for weeks or months on end. WCG stopped work distribution on Monday (and will stop result reception next Sunday), to take a break until far into April for its move of operations from IBM to Krembil. The selection of other projects which are similarly trouble-free to run, especially in related scientific subjects, is slim. Very slim, I would say. And maybe it's just me, but somehow some shorter or longer downtimes of several projects really stuck out this past week.

But the selection of projects which really need our help is still broad. So let's get to it!

Oh, one more thing: It is an honor to me to present a Participation Award once again. This week's P.A. goes to @Icecold at Rakesearch. Congrats! ;-)

Perhaps you were in luck and missed Universe@home's downtime for 2 days at the beginning of the week, followed by another 2 days with a download bug on the server which affected some clients.

what did you go with?

I didn't run WCG but am in the same boat after all, since what I want to run primarily this year is Climateprediction which doesn't have work for Linux at this time (nor for Windows). I am running QuChemPedIA (with Gaia@home as backup on 0% resource share; QuChemPedIA had ~3 days unscheduled downtime at the beginning of this week) on 75% of my currently online cores, and Rosetta@home on 25%, including the newer, bogus VirtualBox based application.

For those of us that NEED to run their GPUs, simply to heat their home(s), there's always Nicehash (mining)... just a friendly FYI. It can be as addicting as DC.

That said, the profits are down across the board, with mining, so don't do it if you're just in it for the money.

Of course, I suppose there's always PrimeGrid, too. I might do some of that now that profits are down a bit. Maybe. LMK when the next GPU race is.

I look forward to proof-of-work coins, that move to proof-of-useful-work (AKA DC tasks), melding the best of the DC world, with the crypto world, where you can actually get compensated for your contributions, and thus sustain your hardware purchases to scale up to more DC (PoUW) work.

The work which is credited here was performed while QuChemPedIA was down and *before* the green line in the linked graphs reached zero.

Maybe a team race to take down the TeAm's A.I.? This next week or so?

A central aspect of such a race would be to ask the project for work in the nicest ways possible. I'm sure the A.I. can emulate a nice personality, but would it want to?

When I looked yesterday, or the day before, CPDN did have WUs, but only for Linux. That was another project I'd wanted to do too.
