Weekly DC Stats - 11JUL2021

Hi all,

here we go with the weekly stats, certainly much later in the day than many of you are used to. I'll aim to get this done next week before the morning coffee went cold at least for those who reside in the New World. :-)

Some changes relative to previous week:

• The TeAm dropped by one rank in Amicable Numbers, Collatz Conjecture, NFS@Home, Private GFN server, RC5-72, and Van Der Waerden Numbers. :-(
  Reminds me of Barbie's famous assessment that math is hard. ;-)
• Production in Folding@Home is a bit higher again than last week. Looks like most users had a bit more output now across the board. And rather unusual for the TeAm, the top contribution is from the anonymous users, or an anonymous user… or a user with the pseudonym Anonymous? %-)
  Still, most of our Folders are of course in Summer mode; we had >1 B/week until early May.
• I see that my alter ego xii5ku was MIA last week but is now back, predicting some bits of climate.

Now let's have a look at our challenge calendar:

• Saturday 7/17 - Tuesday 7/20 (3 days), starts and ends 22:00 UTC: PrimeGrid World Emoji Day Challenge at GFN-17-Low

In general, the GFN subprojects work better on GPUs than CPUs. (The biggest GFN subprojects, GFN-22 and DYFL, don't even have a CPU-only application in the first place.) But I hear that GFN-17-Low still works reasonable on CPUs, and I suppose that those who go in fully in this 3-day event will bring both their GPUs and CPUs. Should be worthwhile to check beforehand how much load the CPU can take before GPU tasks are slowed down.

A CPU-only PrimeGrid challenge will follow mid August. BTW, boincstats is also listing a TN-Grid challenge in August. But IMO it's better to stay out of that one: Most TN-Grid contests are about which team can issue the most work requests, not so much about who is is capable of doing the most work. The project wanted to upgrade the server for faster work generation, but it looks like this hasn't happened yet.

My video card fleet is all but idle due to the 90F temps, and 1/3rd of my cores as well. Only 2 cards doing F@H and 12 computers with about 700 cores running. So 12 video cards idle and 6 computers idle...(400 cores idle)

If I search this forum for "majestic", the results look as if we have more weeks with negative score than ones with positive score. That is, receiving negative credit seems normal at Majestic-12.

Some teams get positive credit, more teams get negative credit. (Free-DC page: all teams at Majestic-12)

Edit, btw, here is our team page at the projects site, with a work history graph which supposedly covers 2005...2021.

What I find amazing is that for folding at home, I’m 17th on the team total and 11th in weekly production, and I’ve only been participating since 3/20/20. This is basically just a 1080ti running that whole time, with some CPU folding during competitions. That means a single 3080ti or 3090 should be able to be top 5 on the team in weekly production (!)

Record heat and length of heat wave here. Pattern does not look to change soon this summer and is getting old.
