Hi all,

later than usual, but nevertheless here are the weekly stats. First I was away for work, then FreeDC was so slow to respond that I went AFK once more for housecleaning while the stats were downloading…

Oh whow, the TeAm was 7th for the week in Folding@Home, even though ours weekly total is about the same as the week before. And @Markfw put another brick on the pedal is outscoring @Pokey this time.

MilkyWay@home looks like it's about to leave its recent troubles behind; at least our weekly credits are now double compared to previous week.

The Rosetta@home scoreboard is a bit out of whack this time; check post #2 for additional Rosetta credits.

Again, I'm absent from the stats, as I mentioned back here: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/weekly-dc-stats-13mar2022.2602437/#post-40719702

Now, finally, I've made some progress in this "project". I had the heating contractor here, as well as the electrician. The heat pump is no big deal (well, except price-wise of course

), everything'll fit, one could even consider it minimally invasive from the building's perspective

The electrician however caught me by surprise... The existing breaker box is too small to accommodate the required 400V connection and accessories, and he can't install an additional box right next to it, because, according to the current regulations, the room's too small (1.2m free space from the breaker box to the opposite wall is required, and the room is not that wide, it's at the lower end of the staircase). After some discussion and brainstorming, the way out is one huge new breaker box (1.4m x 0.8m... wow), replacing the old one, installed on the short wall of the room (instead of the long wall as is the existing breaker box). Obviously, this'll increase the overall cost a "little". But well. At least, everything can be government-funded (35%). So, I got the quotations, requested the government-funding, and awarded the contracts. Now, it's a matter of hoping for the supply-chains to regain some momentum because almost everything has long lead times currently (heat pump, breaker box, even cables...). Would be great to get it done before the next heating period, because otherwise I'll have to get a new gas delivery contract, and I'd hate to do that...

I haven't had to run the heater in my apartment for the 3 years I've lived here. My DC rigs all keep my apartment nice and warm during the winter even when it's well below waters freezing temperature. In fact, I usually have to open a window or two during the Winter to modulate the temperature because it'll still get too hot.

Now, finally, I've made some progress in this "project". I had the heating contractor here, as well as the electrician. The heat pump is no big deal (well, except price-wise of course ), everything'll fit, one could even consider it minimally invasive from the building's perspective The electrician however caught me by surprise... The existing breaker box is too small to accommodate the required 400V connection and accessories, and he can't install an additional box right next to it, because, according to the current regulations, the room's too small (1.2m free space from the breaker box to the opposite wall is required, and the room is not that wide, it's at the lower end of the staircase). After some discussion and brainstorming, the way out is one huge new breaker box (1.4m x 0.8m... wow), replacing the old one, installed on the short wall of the room (instead of the long wall as is the existing breaker box). Obviously, this'll increase the overall cost a "little". But well. At least, everything can be government-funded (35%). So, I got the quotations, requested the government-funding, and awarded the contracts. Now, it's a matter of hoping for the supply-chains to regain some momentum because almost everything has long lead times currently (heat pump, breaker box, even cables...). Would be great to get it done before the next heating period, because otherwise I'll have to get a new gas delivery contract, and I'd hate to do that...

My breaker box is in the same location, at the bottom of a stairwell, and I was thinking of going heat pump as well. Like Skillz, my heat doesn't get used much, not until 10-20 degrees or so as I have an end unit townhouse. Makes me wonder if I'd need electrical work as well esp since 50A is used for a car charger.

I need to reconfigure systems again. I have to choose between having a 6700XT or a 1080ti always online and the other being in reserve for DC. Which one should always be online?

Probably the 1080ti for most things, but without testing each potential project it's hard to know which ones could benefit from the AMD card. The projects have pages where they list relative performance, but I haven't found them to be very helpful.

I'm currently leaning the same way. I'll keep the 1080ti online and probably mostly use it for F@H as it gets over double the ppd of the 6700XT. If there is a project where the 6700 is better and I want to run it for the pent, I'll fire up the reserve system.

What else do you do with the PC? The 6700XT is probably a decent amount better for gaming if I had to guess. 1080ti should be better for most DC projects though.

My 5 year old uses it to draw pictures in gimp, type in notepad, play "untitled goose game", and I occasionally use it as a second system for self buffing in Diablo II Resurrected. Once in a rare while, my wife uses it for some video editing. My main PC has the 3080ti.

I think I'd go with the 1080ti then. Like you said, if you decide to run a project the 6700xt does better in you can always fire up the reserve system.
