Hello again everyone,

apparently this time of day is an unlucky one to pull Folding@home stats from FreeDC. Last Sunday they were way too low, this time they are way too high and include many users who haven't actually folded recently. (This time I bothered to compare with EOC's stats.) I'll retry the FreeDC F@h stats later today.

As for the other non-boinc projects: Majestic-12 has got negative team points as always, even though there are two non-zero (positive) user credits this time. FreeDC's RC5-72 stats might be alright although not totally up-to-date, and crowded by what appears to be rounding errors which lead to 1 credit noise.

But enough with the complaining. In the grander picture, FreeDC is doing a stellar job.

What else have we got? The TeAm slipped by 1 in the MLC@home ranks. Oh, some Ralph@Home work was caught in Fardringle's nets. :-) I see cellarnoise worked on the recently proclaimed overtake plans at WCG, but not enough! :-P

In the event we have any non-crunching AnandTech readers who happen to wander into this thread: Distributed Computing is where you allow your computing device (smartphones/tablets included) to work on things like medical research, mathematical stuff, sifting through telescope data to further the field of Astronomy, and many other 'citizen science' projects. It allows networked computers to band together to act as a supercomputer. And you should join us. Thanks go, as always, to the folks responsible for Free-DC, who make this possible by keeping score for us.

Thanks a bunch!

For the curious: For too long, I suffered from an addiction. This addiction was almost singularly my only focus in life. That addiction was DC, lol, so it wasn't all that bad of an addiction, but seriously, it took way too many hours of my day, and far more money than I could afford. I still believe in DC, but I no longer believe it is my duty to build a supercomputer out of my own pocket to participate. From now on I will try to find BALANCE in my life. Summers will find mostly my primary rig running. I will have some cooler weather rigs that remain in the fleet, but mostly I will be a regular Joe from now on. I appreciate y'all!

It seems to be somewhat cyclical for me. I was pretty into it somewhere around a decade ago, and then life got in the way, circumstances changed, and I had to shut down most of my hardware. Last year was kind of crazy with ramping up hardware and stuff to try to help us win 3rd (really 2nd, if you take out Gridcoin) in FB. I think I'm moving towards a more 'balanced' DC life situation as well, with trying to upgrade power in my garage to not have a ton of computers with loud fans inside the house, etc. and will only run stuff when I actively want to rather than 100% all the time.

We're happy to have you on the team, and whether you are running one machine or twenty try not to just be a lurker(taken from the TTony sightings thread) :)

With that said, I plan on destroying our competition once B Games is live, so maybe my plans aren't so balanced :p

I'm in nostalgia mode here, but, it was fun slapping around TSBT and XS at the end of last year in Formula BOINC. Power bills, etc. be damned, it was an enjoyable time for me.

This statement:
"apparently this time of day is an unlucky one to pull Folding@home stats from FreeDC. Is definitely true. Pokey shows as the number one folder, and this has not been the case for weeks/months. I keep trying, and its all hosed. When I show up around 157 million or so for the week, then you can trust them.

Yep, it's still wrong at FreeDC.
EOC on the other hand doesn't have a convenient "Last 7 days" table for all users in the team, but it has got "24hr Avg" in the Team Users List. This figure, multiplied by 7, is equal to the "Last 7days" points apart from small rounding errors. So here we go with numbers which I derived in this way from EOC (from the Sep 5, 9pm CDT snapshot):

Wise and self-reflective words. I hope, you'll succeed and find the equilibrium, but manage to stay here- it would be less funny without you :)

With that said, I plan on destroying our competition once B Games is live, so maybe my plans aren't so balanced :p
You, sir, to put it loosely in MJ's words, do need to stop it, get some help :-D On the other side, probably most of us do :-D

I am ha ha happy you are sticking around TTony!

You and Marky Mark are (and the deep down desire to "need" new hardware occasionally) and working by myself in my cold basement during winter and also needing an excuse for heat :) are why I started up DC, what 2 years ago? Been into personal puters since around 80, but never had the desire to DC, until I ran into you bunch of characters.... :)

Thanks Stefan for the Stats! I thought our goal was to eventually have enough points to divide by zero, but I now understand that the points should go UP!

So at this rate I will catch #AshleyW in 20 years-ish?! :pDC_Divide_by_Zero.png

TT
You think DC is addicting... that's like a puff of MJ. Trying crypto-mining, that's like a hit of Crack. (*)

On second thought, DON'T.

(*) Poster has never "done crack", at least aside from any fumes that might have been present 20 years ago at a Rolling Stones tour.

On a separate note to Larry talking about smoking crack - Free DC the site that these stats are pulled from had posted the following-

Free DC Stats said:
Appreciate the few donations in the last couple of days. A lot of change going on right now. My job is in bit of flux and my health is not the best (though getting better slowly with some lifestyle changes). You guys have certainly helped in the past but that main last time dried up over a year ago. I'm going to continue paying for this hobby though end of year but without some major help or changes before that I'll be winding down. Please Donate if you wish to help

Free-DC stats are run from my home using my own bandwidth and servers. I've ran it from home for the last 17 years or so. It is getting increasingly more expensive to run anything with power costs over $600 per month right now

If anyone would like to help with the costs for running and maintaining the site I'd certainly appreciate it with a donation below

No pressure on anybody, but if it's not a hardship to send them some money and you use their stats website it would be good to send some money over to them to keep it running. Hopefully this isn't against any forum rules. Also, they accept donations in cyrpto :p

Maybe I could support the TeAm in that way, and keep mining. I still have to pay my car ins. and rent for Sept. first thing.

It's whatever you want to do, but my suggestion in this case would be to let me know how much you were thinking of contributing via PM and I'll send it over to Free-DC on your behalf myself, but we'd really appreciate participation on the next CPU project that comes up. The next Primegrid race I'm pretty sure is CPU work units, and mining Monero on CPU's pays not crap anyways, so there's no reason not to throw some CPU's at whatever competitions we have have going on as long as you don't overload your power in your apartment :) Understandably though we'd not expect you to compete in any GPU competitions since you're already mining on the GPU's.

Just my thoughts, feel free to take it or leave it :)

Not that he would do it, but if I had some technical information on what his hardware is that runs it, and he would donate the software, I might be able to take it over. I mean, I have over 1100 threads available, and the disk space would be in the range of 30 terrabytes or more. Bandwidth is no problem, and my electric bill is already $600 a month or so.

Fair enough, I can do that, it's getting cooler out (thankfully). I normally shut off the CPU mining when running the A/C, as it's not nearly as power-efficient as some of my (tuned) GPUs.

I have 2x Ryzen 5 3600 and 1x Ryzen 5 3800X that I can throw at PrimeGrid. I could potentially have another Ryzen 5 1600, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth, and last time it was in a race, it submitted erroneous WUs up the wazoo (a technical term), so I've been holding it back from the competition sphere.

Hopefully that's a worst case scenario, but I appreciate you mentioning it. I would have some hardware I could donate as well, though my home internet is only something like 200/20 and I'm not sure what their bandwidth requirements are. I'll let you know if I hear of it getting to that point.

Heck yeah, Larry, we're happy to have whatever you can throw at the next Primegrid race :) I'm happy that it's finally getting close to fall, prime DC weather.
