At least the Bulldogs are hanging onto #25 by a thread.

It's those uniforms. Uggh. I couldn't watch those for 3 hours, and neither could a lot of other people. Less viewership = Less advertising revenue.

I wonder if a loss to UCLA would cost USC a rose bowl bid? Would Penn State overtake the #2 spot?

It probably depends on what kind of loss it is.

It clearly depends on how the voters treat the loss. But most likely, it'll put the only lossless team well into 1st on both polls, and leave Penn St., LSU, and the loser in a very close tie for 2nd in the polls.

[*]USC loses. Basically in the BCS, USC would lose ~0.1 points on the Harris poll, ~0.1 points in the USA Today poll, and ~0.05 points in the computer poll. I get these numbers by assuming the votes would be split between USC, Penn St., and LSU. Average loss = (0.1 + 0.1 + 0.05) / 3 = 0.083 points. USC is 0.0871 points ahead of Penn St. Penn St would gain virtually nothing in this scenerio. Thus I'd bet USC would squeak by in 2nd in a controversy.

[*]Texas loses. Basically in the BCS, Texas would lose ~0.07 points on the Harris poll, ~0.07 points in the USA Today poll, and ~0.07 points in the computer poll. I get these numbers by assuming the votes would be split between USC, Penn St., and LSU. Average loss = 0.07 points. Texas is 0.0747 points ahead of Penn St. Penn St would gain virtually nothing in this scenerio. Thus I'd bet Texas would squeak by in 2nd in a controversy.

Of course, any prediction on what will happen is likely to be suspect, since the difference between 2nd and 3rd may lie in just one voter. Just one more reason we should change our current 2 team playoff to an 8 team playoff (16 teams if you count the conference championship as part of the playoff system).

I think it's more likely for USC to be solidly behind LSU and Penn St in the polls, based on the precedent from 2003 when Oklahma lost. I wouldn't be suprised if USC, VT, and UCLA end up bunched close together. In that scenario, USC would definetly not make the Rose Bowl (but is guaranteed a fiesta bowl bid). I think USC would be a solid 3rd in the computers, behind Penn State and ahead of Ohio State.

Texas would also fall to third in the computers if they lost. With the voters, I think they would end up behind LSU and Penn State and around the same place as VT.
