I heard Connecticut saved New England. Apparently our power grid reacted fast enough and disconnected itself from New York grid, saving most of New England. Unfortunately, I live too close to NY and that didn't save us.

you were at home, imagine how all those people stuck in the city because of the power outage feel.

this was more than just an inconvenience for a lot of people that work in NYC.

Power is still not up here in the middle of LI... it's 630am. Need to find out if LIRR is running into the city... does anyone know - or have a # to dial? MTA site is down and the web directories / phone books suck ass. Thx.

They said on the news that LIRR will be down for some time. So will the subway. On the bright note the city buses are free today.
Thanks... we also heard on the radio LIRR will not be restored until 8 hours AFTER normal power is restored. My fiance was so eager to go to work... I can't even get her to relax. Silly I.T. people.

Still no power at our house either... 1230-friggin-PM. Drove through my old neighborhood to get to work and the grid around a hospital is the only area with power right now. People were lining up out to the street at the 2 gas stations there. Thankfully a McD's is open there too... so guess what people around the area are having for dinner ? :)
