So in the post Christmas eval list is a weed whacker my wife got me.

Ryoba P2080 18V cordless. -----> http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-ON...Cordless-String-Trimmer-Edger-P2080/206451828

Probably just fine but I'm a little cordless weary and Ryobi's auto-feed function appears to tick some people off. (It feeds every time you let go no matter what so you go thru a lot of line?)

Anyway......if anybody's got alternative suggestions, I'm all ears. Cordless would be great but I've done corded for the last 20 years so any which way, suggestions appreciated!!

TIA!

Get the 40V Ryobi if you insist on electric. The matching leaf blower is also quite impressive. Personally I still prefer gas.

Thanks nut. Actually, as I continue to read, it looks like the "EGO 1502-s" (latest with 2.5ah batt) appears to be best. The old 1501-s was a 2.0ah batt but otherwise highest rated all over.

Reading up now on the string. Looks like many buy a 2nd spool & have ready for swapping back & forth. 1 in, 1 out for rewrap, etc.

I have this. I bought it from sears since I had a ton of points to use up.

It turns on the side with teh wheels for easy edging and the button feed works really well surprisingly.
If I didn't have the points though I would have gone with the EGO.

buy some cheap home depot credits on Craigslist. Meet the guy at home depot and trade after the purchase is completed.
you can usually buy at .50 - .75 cents on the dollar.

I'm in the same market and my research tells me the $200 15" Ego weed whacker is top dog.

Need to wait until Jan 1 to buy though =X

Quite fond of my Echo SRM-225. Slapped on an edging attachment and I get the job done a lot faster than my electrics (which I've been using for ~7 years prior to the Echo).

It's gas, but I got it for $80 and it came with a gas can. Plus I like huffing the fumes when I trim, so win-win for me.

I have a nice edger that starts 1 or 2 pulls every time so no worries there, so just weed whacker for me. (occasional til where edger doesn't reach but ezpz)

And true.........while I'm probably gonna go with the EGO, there is nothing like the smell of 2 stroke in the morning!! ;) :p

I ended up buying a 12" ego from CL for $80. Unfortunately there's only 1 speed sitting - murder.
