From my first solo BHO run the other day
Some of ya'll took the bait way too easily...
What gets me is that there are plenty of places OP could live with runaway wholesome values implemented via Sharia Law.
I like what you're saying here, and I think many bible thumpers could do with a visit to Yemen or some place like that, but I am not sure I'm willing to concede that much about sharia law (to the extent I know anything about it) is "wholesome." There is a core of stuff about families and relationships, but a lot of it is just messed up, and the insane restrictions lead to some pretty psychotic behaviors, imo.
Just because it responds violently to actions it's followers deem "icky"? Keep in mind that wholesome violence is not nearly as taboo as demonic sex. The morally indigenous would rather we get our jollies from violently murdering each other instead of fornicating with each other.
Any sane, logical person would connect the dots that controlling huge decisions in people's lives is totalitarian behavior, and not really the goal of the constituents of the USA. It's tricky because the size of this country breeds hot spots of folk that think their way of life is superior and the best way to get people to see that is to force it upon them. It works great in states like Alabama, Kansas, and Utah, where the majority population is backwards enough to vote that way.
My main problem with sharia law is the same as with talmudic law:
Bacon.
Who can take seriously a god that wants to keep all of the delicious bacon to himself? A loving god with just laws would share the gift of bacon with his followers.
Lack of bacon is the reason suicide bombers exists. If someone had just gotten them bacon they would have suddenly realized the value of life and lives would be saved.
When a bacon bomb goes off everybody wins.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't trust anyone that doesn't eat pig. whatever their reason.
I oppose people who try to decide what they are for other folks. I have my own values thank you very much.
The laws of the land have zero, zip, nada to do with the ten commandments. Lately your posts have turned into some kind of tv evangelist crap that just gives the bash Christians crowd more ammo.

Umm..nossir you are very mistaken on that.
Otherwise it would be "ok" to rob, steal, kill, adulterize.
However it seems we have rules in place to the contrary.

Doesn't account for violence associated to legal trade. Once you factor that in, there's no case in favor for prohibition.
You literally can't argue in favor of prohibition without ignoring major facts and statistics.

Um, you do know, I assume, that the Code of Hammurabi, set down around 1770 BC, contains many of the same provisions? I would say it probably predates the decalogue, but we have no idea if the decalogue was ever actually written at all. Of Hammurabi's code we have contemporary copies.
I'm pretty sure that kings in the ancient world passed laws for monogamy because they didn't want anyone else having the same status as them, being able to maintain a harem, or to have anyone else messing around with their women.
I can tell this thread is going to be around for a while! We're going to cover everything, and now there's only 2 Internet laws I'm waiting for to be invoked.
