Weed Eater Thread

I have a black and decker electric weedeater and it seems to go through the spools pretty quick...they average about $15 for a pack of 3 and each spool lasts about 2 mowings...

Wonder if it better to just buy the line in bulk and then just manually re-spool it when it runs out or keep buying them already spooled from Home Depot/Lowes...

Does manually re-spooling them cause any line feed jams or anything?

I tried that gator thing with the plastic blades but the stone edging around the flower bed destroyed the plastic blades in 1 outing (i.e., it was a waste of $14)...

BTW, since I am not a hip youngin' anymore, POLL is spelled correctly...

I have a weedeater, but it is too noisy/messy for me to use. I prefer grass shears.

I prefer a flamethrower

MY HOA only allows flame throwers between 4 AM and 5 AM which is too early for me...need to see what they say about goats though...

Definitely cheaper for string alone, but kind of a pain. Every once in a while it'll get tangled in the spool and you'll have to restring it, but once you get good stringing it, it's not a big deal.

By the way, you think stone is bad? When I had a summer job working for the city I had to mow around the ball fields. Chain link fence eats the string like nothing.

As you get better with it, you'll become more precise and use less string. I can't stand electric trimmers though.

i bought my weedeater for $5 at a yard sale (green / yellow electric jobby)

so if it runs out, i'm definitely buying a gas-powered one so i don't have to fandangle with the cord.

edit: i went with option # 1 - i haven't ran out yet. g/l

Same here, hate the electric weedeaters though, I have a couple of 2 stroke gas powered ones, my Stihl kicks ass🙂

Buy it in bulk and get something of decent quality. Real cheap string can end up costing much more if you consider your time valuable. (if it's not valuable use scissors)
