In keeping with Microsoft's new policy of releasing new critical updates on the second Tuesday of each month, Microsoft has released new critical updates today, June 8th, the second Tuesday of the month of June.

You say that as if they usually take less than a month to fix them anyway. People previously complained that the unpredictable release schedule for patches made it hard for them to keep their systems up to date.
 
the 2nd tuesday policy has been in place for quite some time, about half a year or more

they will release updates sooner if the vulnerability is already "in the wild", but if the discoverer is working with MS , they test/prepare and release each 2nd tuesday


it is very nice for enterprise customers to do it this way, we know when to plan our time for testing/deployment of updates

Yep. I love it. I put my testing people on a 4 week cycle - 2 weeks internal testing, 2 weeks testing on "staging" servers and then it gets pushed out to production, just in time for the next release.
 
Wait wait wait... this is for DirectX 7.0 only. Even though I don't need to have it, I have DirectX 9.0b installed on this box. That means this "critical" update isn't for me. 🙂

When I click on the Win2k link, I get "Security Update for DirectX 7.0 (KB839643)" and a download button. 😕
