I ship off to Ft. Benning, GA, for Army basic training. I'll be down there for four months and should return around late January/early February. The reality that i'm leaving is finally starting to kick in...and i'm getting kinda sad.

I turn 22 tomorrow and driving 2 hours to see my gf for one last time and spending the night, then coming home wednesday morning and saying the rest of my goodbyes.

HOOAH!!!

Good luck fellow Michigander! Wow, you'll pretty much miss the whole football season, huh?

When in boot camp, think of it as one day at a time.
If you can make it through the day, You have made it.
(That's how I got through it)

I will try to vote in a new boss for you........

i wish. I tried to get Air Borne and Air Assault school in my contract, but they kept telling me the money was too tight. Besides, my unit isn't airborne.

Outstanding man
make sure you take some time to yourself and get your head straight.. and mentally prepared for the head games that are about to start.. thats even more important than being physically ready..

All the best My friend you can do it..

what are the head games that go on? (just watched Full Metal Jacket, so my perception may be a little skewed :p)

Keep in mind....Basic Training is like a Fraternity. Both of them try to break you down and build you back up. Don't try to standout....just make yourself a number and you'll get past the hard@ss drill instructors. Remember...they see people come and go all the time...just try to hang in there.

I second the "One day at a time" suggestion. A LOT of mind games. Modern basic military training is much worse than Full Metal Jacket, fyi. Be ready to work at least 16hrs/day every day during Basic.
