For those who have gotten married recently, did you put those insert cards in the envelope with the invitation? I've heard some people tell me its a good idea, and some people say its tacky.

edit...
you invite people to a wedding making sure that you do not expect anything as a gift from them. Its supposed to be your gift to them.
They do know to give gifts. Get the word out by family and friends.

you are also allowed to put registry things on a shower invite :)

yeah....no mention of registry in the invite....okay in shower announcements and by word of mouth, or on your official wedding website.

when's the big day? you never mentioned getting engaged...

I have no idea if we did, my wife took care of that. But as the recipient I would appreciate getting some clue as to what I could buy you for a gift.

we didn't put that stuff in the wedding invite.

we may have put something indicating where we were registered on the shower invites.

we did tell people by word of mouth.

One huge hint I wish I had known...

Be sure to register for stuff you don't expect to get. Go crazy. Register for that $12,000 couch.

Reason?

Every place we registered offered us a significant (10-40%) discount on the items on our registry that were never purchased.

I was kidding about the couch.
