How much should I spend on a present for a good friend son who is getting married?

I don't want to look cheap. I dont want to be over the top. Just in the middle

So how much is the middle? .

$50-100 cash preferably.

Or if you wanted to get them a physical item, get something(s) from their registry equivalent to $50-100.

i was told typically 100 / person going to wedding.
so if its you and a date ~200

If its someone close, multiply by factor of how close you are.
If its family multiply again by factor how close you are.
If its an Ex... divide by factor in how much you hate... err... nm... why are you going to a ex's wedding?

$100 seems about right to me. $50 is lunch for two including tip, and a wedding's bigger than lunch.

That could vary heavily by couple and location. Giving $300 for a fancy wedding in the Hamptons would make you look cheap but would be over the top for a wedding in a random corn field in the middle of alabama. Middle for most is probably around $100 though

I would bring my prize pig and a jug of moonshine.

Get him a fishing rod and nice lures. He's going to need some wedding tackle.

Give cash $50-100.

Or if they have a registry somewhere, buy a giftcard for that store, again $50-100.

My experience is even though people have registries at like Bed Bath Beyond, Crate & Barrel, Amazon, etc, they end up returning a lot of stuff (at least that's what my wife and I did).

Edit: Damn, fell for a necro. Oh well.

And you had already answered in post # 4. At least you are consistent... $50 - $100 .....

It won't kill you.

People are still getting married, still throwing celebration parties, guests still wonder what gift to bring. It's been less than a year. Adjust for inflation, say 1.5%.
