anyone have experience w/ wedding planners? advice on how to choose one? are they worth the cost? can they save you money?

They will put bigger, grander ideas in the woman's head, which will not save you money 😛.

Wedding Planner - "Instead of flowers on each table, why don't we put a giant rainforest in, with wild animals and indiginous plants!"

ROFL!

i assumed that you'd give the wedding planner a budget and she'd (assuming it's a woman) would work within that budget.

Just watch "Who's wedding is it anyways?" for a few episodes, and copy those ideas (but figure out how to do it cheaper).

So...you are pretty much paying somebody a boatload of money to put you even further into the hole. And this is about THE ONLY TIME in your marriage that the woman won't turn down the excess spending.

These people are BRILLIANT!

They deserve the money they make. Would you want to deal with brides EVERYDAY!?

He doesn't know what the heck he is talking about. He cannot say that he knows or experienced it first had... 😉

I was the wedding planner and made all the choices did ALL the leg work, made all the contacts and deals, literally HAND MADE most of the details of the parties. Why would ANYONE PAY someone else to tell them what they like at their own wedding?

However, he is right... that is what they do, on top of being at the Bridezilla's beck and call for the year leading up to the "big day" 😱 😀

A good wedding planner won't tell you what you like, they'll ask you what you like and make it happen.

That said, planning the wedding was time consuming and a bit of a PITA. If had money to throw away, I would not have thought twice about offloading that work.

Yes, but it's human nature to go towards things you like, so that wedding planner will continue to inject their own preferences into things, just like an interior decorator. Everyone has a style and the entire wedding would show the wedding planner's style.
