Cliff notes: Fiancee ordered size 14 dress, shop got a size 16, they said they cannot get a 14. Will a credit card dispute go in our favor because the dress shop is not giving us what we ordered?

So we are getting married in Sept. My fiancee tried on a size 12 dress in the dress shop, and it fit good. The shop said they wanted to order a size 14 because my fiancee is busty, and they didn't know if the 12 would really have enough room in the chest area. So that's fine, and sounds good. Well, a few months later they get the dress in, but it's a size 16. They said they could alter it, and everything would be fine. Since my fiancee tried on the size 12 dress, she has lost 10 pounds, making the size 16 even bigger. We told them we ordered a 14, that's what we want, but they said they are stuck with what the dress maker sends them. Well, she tried on the dress today for the first time, and it is way too big, and my fiancee is all pissed. because they can only take off 4 inches of fabric, and she would rather more taken off...

1)I am going to call and ask for a refund, because my fiancee found the same dress online and she can put a rush order on it and get it in time for the wedding.

2)If the shop doesn't refund the order, we are going to call the credit card company and dispute the charges saying they are giving us the wrong product, because it's not the size we ordered. Is this a valid credit card dispute?

Absolutely, that's asinine. I'm sure your credit card company would back you up.

Well, I talked to the store and they are refunding our money! My fiancee is going to order the dress from an online place in the right size, and it will even be cheaper. :D

Weird. Most shops make a lot of money on alterations. In fact, most of their money. So they have some motivation to get you the wrong size - so they can charge you extra to take it back in. It is true, however, that there is only so much they can take it in before it starts to look strange. It's even harder with dresses with lots of beading and applique.

I suppose it's all a moot point now, but this is definitely something to be cautious of when purchasing a wedding dress.

<---Fiancee worked in alterations at David's Bridal.

Yeah $300 in alterations in our case.

Be mindful of the time it will also take to alter after you guys get the rush order.
