Hello All:

Looking for a free program that will, most importantly: (1) track hits and unique visitors, (2) identify the source of the visitor (search enginer referral, banner ad, etc.), and (3) identify browser settings.

I am looking at this:
Extreme Tracking

Anyone have experience with this program?

Other suggestions?

FWIW, this is for a NFP website.

Thank you!

What's your budget?

What kind of control panel does your webhost provider offer you?

eXtreme Tracking is actually a very good stats program, one of the better ones infact. (I think I might throw it back on my website..)

But it doesnt look quite as 'professional'. Now if you have access to the log files on your webserver, you can use some other more detailed programs.
I personally use Awstats, which is free. I use it because it was relativly easy to get working on my Win32 server.
There is also, Webalizer, which is another good stats program. You can see it in action over at Paulsonator.com.

Budget is free, and I'm not aware of the relationship with the webhoster, as of yet.

DaZ, those two programs look very interesting though -- seem a bit more robust than the first one.
I will definitely look into those further.

Thank you. ; )

We've used Webalizer for some of our smaller clients, but still use the industry standard (WebTrends) for our bigger clients. You'd be amazed by the variances between tracker/log analyzer programs when looking at traffic. We were comparing 5 different pieces of software a couple years ago. There was a wide deviation when analyzing the same log file from software to software.

That seems to be the impression that I get from talking with people, Parrotheader -- even the the programs' websites claim they track differently. Maybe trying a few different ones for trial runs would be best.

n0cmonkey, would you care to elaborate? I honestly thought this would be the best forum, but you may (probably) know better.
