Website to find every State's laws?

MichaelD

Somewhere, within this great God I call Teh Intarweb, there's got to be ONE WEBSITE that lists ALL the laws of ALL the states. Or, at least has good links to them.

I want to be able to know my rights should:

I get pulled over for speeding
With open alcohol in the car
With a girlfriend that's been beaten
And she's holding an illegal reptile pet
And I have a gun in the trunk
Make that 34 handguns and 2 shotguns
And I divorced my wife last week
And we have 2 kids together
And I owe taxes
In four states

Get my drift? I have searched and searched and all I come up w/is busted links. There has GOT to be some kind of .gov or .something site that has ALL the links to ALL the laws of ALL 50 states.

Help educate The Pissed Off At The Intarwebz.

so you want a website that has a text field where you can type that in, and have it return each and every penal code that is related from every state? Good luck finding that website. 😉

Very good replies so far. In fact, not far from the level of sarcastic reality conceptualizaton that I'd find all on my own.

Seriously, it's gotta be out there somewhere!

Quite the sorted life we live, eh MikeD???

NO! I'm actually a really nice, law-abiding guy. It's just that I always seem to be in violation of some law...by the nth degree...in the eyes of some punkass cop that needs a bust. It's just my luck.

I mean...if my drunken GF punches me in the mouth...and I slam her head against the passenger window...and we happen to be transporting my snakes to my new house...isn't that just the weirdest shiit? It's not like I PLANNED it!

I need to know my rights, dammint.

As state law unfortunately (or fortunately, dependent upon one's perspective) varies quite a bit, the list would be not only extremely lengthy but difficult to maintain, as laws are not static and are often volatile.

Even if the parameters were confined to only one state, the list could be quite long as well. Most states maintain a site for their own laws; however, would say a majority of them are not exhaustive.

Public library is a good choice for access to the state statutes, or one's employer dependent upon its industry.

The only sites I know are paid subscription (Westlaw and Lexis). Using Google searches you can pretty much find every statute, but not all the case law.

It is really not out there. This kind of information changes quickly, and there are a number of states that don't even have their complete legal code online - and many of the ones that do include a warning that says the laws printed online maybe out of date and are for antedotal purposes only.

Findlaw.com is a good starting point. But be aware that every municipality (city, town, village, whatever) has it's own local laws.

I don't think even Westlaw or Lexis, which are both EXPENSIVE pay services used by attorneys, have every law.
