website question.

When I visit this site from home I am automatically logged in so when I want to reply or start a new thread everythings works good. But when I log in at work I have a problem.
First of all I do not want to have the work pc automatically log my username on (for obvious reasons). SO when i visit this site and forget to log in at the main forum page and I try to start a new topic (or send pm's, etc.) I go to log in and then it takes me back to the main forum page instead of the particular page I was at.
I know this may sound trivial to some people or you may just tell me to not forget to log into the site before I start viewing posts. But I know this feature could be added because I have seen it on another board similar to this one 9don't bite my head off, it's not a computer related site).

Any chance the powers above will do this?

The forums already do this? When you go to reply or post it asks if you would like to enter in your login and password and if you want them to stay for your session?.

Hmmm. Maybe my original question just doesn't make sense. Let me try and clarify it and if your answer is still the same, I apologize.
Let's say I post a question in the General Hardware forum. I check my email 8 hours later (at work)and see that someone has replied. I copy/paste the thread address into my browser address. It takes me to my thread. Someone has replied to me but they said to send them a personal message. But since I'm at work, I am not currently logged in (because I don't want this pc at work to remember my info). So when I choose to login it doesn't take me back to my thread (like another site I visit) it takes me to the main forum screen. So now I have to go searching for my thread and you know how fast things move down around here.
Whew. Did that make any sense? I hope so.
BTW I am in no trying to say, "Why can't you be more like www.theothersite.com". I am merely giving a suggestion.

I still don't understand your question.. When you go to reply there is a box to enter your login and password you enter it you reply its as easy as that. If you go to the login button of course its going to take you to the front page of the forums, as it has NO idea where you were? And referrers dont work so we cant use those.

If the option to login while posting was off, then you would be asked for your login info and it would take you back.. as it knows where you were. It seems to make sense to everyone else? But i could be completely missing your point 🙂

I think I'm followingyou as saying that you're not logged in, read a thread, want to send a PM. So you hit login and then you're dropped back at the front page. If you already have the address of the thread copied why not enter it again? Or open up another browser window and point it to forums.anandtech.com and login there?

Soybomb. I'll give that a try.
I guess my main point was that it automatically transports you to the exact same thread if you select to login from that thread at this other site I occasionally go to. I thought all of these boards were about the same.
It's really not THAT big a deal, I just thought it would be neat to incorporate it here since some people may have encountered it if they use multiple pc's to access the site.

de812.. these boards may "look" similar to others but they are in no way the same code wise and feature wise.. which changes the way things work. 🙂.
