Website Load Testing??

I look to my peer's to provide some feedback and ideas on website load testing companies or software. I am working with an e-biz startup and they are wanting to make sure the infrastructure is adequate for a lot of traffic. I know little about the website aspect and work more with the customer service components.

Anyone have past experience with site testing? Google-ing it gives me a lot of hits, but with nothing to compare it to, I'm relying on the advertisement hype.
